RESEARCH HIGHLIGHT

This programme is responsible for the development of high-throughput screening assays using cell-free, cell-based and whole organism model systems in order to serve as platforms to interrogate the small molecules prepared from Natural and Synthetic Products  research programme. Such screening platforms are being used to search for potential hits for diabetes, atherosclerosis, cancer anti-inflammatory, anti-infective, anti-fouling as well as anti-oxidative agents. This programme is also dedicated to undertake fundamental research to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and pathways during infection and disease development using artemia, rodents,  marine organisms as well as cell culture as the model systems. The use of extracts prepared from marine organisms as adjuvant for vaccine development also forms one of the priority areas. Realising the importance of bioinformatics in the era of genomics, that area has been identified as an emerging area under this programme
