Introduction
Environmental sustainability has become a worldwide issue, particularly relating to continual efforts in preventing and safeguarding nature from anthropogenic disturbances. In addressing this issue, biotechnology has proven that it can generate enormous wealth and influence various economic sectors to practice less wasteful use of materials and energy, resulting in decreased emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants, enabling greater and more efficient use of renewable resources, and lessening dependence on nonrenewable resources. Therefore, biotechnology is currently being widely used in production processes across the world as opposed to the conventional chemical synthesis of products.Introduction of new technologies from modern microbiology has enabled engineers and scientists to solve complex environmental problems, such as bio-detoxification of hazardous wastes.
In many cases these micro-organisms and their products are integrated into substrates for environmental clean-up processes, such as biomining, bioremediation, biofiltration, and others.
This conference provides a good opportunity for researchers, academicians, and students who have similar research fields and interests in biotechnology to take part in knowledge transfer and networking for the sustainability of the environment.
