ANIMAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTATION (AEA)

Animal and Environmental Adaptation (AEA) program focuses on understanding how aquatic animals adapt to changes in their environment. This program is particularly concerned with the impacts of climate change on marine life. As the ocean environment becomes increasingly affected by rising temperatures, acidification, and other climate-related changes, it is crucial to understand how marine species can adapt—or fail to adapt—to these shifts. This research program investigates the physiological, behavioural, and ecological responses of marine animals to these changes, helping to predict how climate change will influence species distribution, survival, and biodiversity. This program provides critical data for developing strategies to protect marine ecosystems and species at risk from the adverse effects of global warming.
